Discovery Cove in Orlando is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Orlando Theme Parks! Perfect for a midweek break to reset and rejuvenate your entire traveling party! This oasis is for every age at Discovery Cove. But what exactly IS Discovery Cove? An all-inclusive day resort owned and operated by Sea World where guests can explore sea life up close! You can snorkel at a freshwater reef, swim with dolphins, SNUBA, feed birds or just float around one of the best lazy rivers I’ve ever experienced!
What’s Included?
Included with your admission is unlimited food and beverages (including beer and wine), snorkeling gear (including a prescription option!), lounge chairs and hammocks, wetsuits, towels, animal encounters, hand feeding birds, lockers, shower facilities and sunscreen! You can upgrade to a reserved cabana, swimming with dolphins, SNUBA (an underwater walking tour), Swim with Sharks and other personal animal encounters.
Lay Of The Land
How is Discovery Cove laid out? Discovery Cove is made up of 3 main sections. Near the entrance you will find the main dining, aviary, freshwater oasis and lazy river. Secondly, You’ll find the Dolphin Lagoon in the middle section. If possible, select a locker in this area so that you are central to all areas. You can also pick up your snorkel gear and wetsuits here. You can also find a smaller snack and beverage station here. Thirdly, the Grand Reef, is where you can snorkel as well as the check-in desk for Shark Swim, Ray Feeding or Sea Venture (SNUBA). Behind the Grand Reef you can find a snack and beverage station that we found to have no line whenever we stopped!
Activities
How should you schedule your day? First and foremost, arrive early. You will be greeted at the entrance by a team member who will check you in, schedule any add on experiences, give you a lanyard with a plastic scannable ticket and a waterproof map. If possible, have the team member schedule timed activities for the morning. By getting reserved activities such as the dolphin swim completed in the morning, you are free to enjoy the afternoon without watching the clock and timing activities and dining around those reservations.
The dining area can be busy during peak dining times, but the food is excellent! If you can eat slightly off of peak times this will help you maximize your time having fun! Breakfast selections include traditional eggs, bacon, French toast sticks, pastries, yogurt! Lunch included steak, salmon, burgers, salads and much more! Snacks served throughout the day included warm pretzels, cookies, fruit, chips and granola bars.
I thoroughly enjoyed our day at Discovery Cove, a much-needed break during a week of theme park fun! I was amazed how it feels like you are in the Caribbean at an all-inclusive resort but right in the middle of Orlando! If you’re looking for something different to do on a vacation, be sure to consider Discovery Cove!
