Ft. Wilderness Camp Ground is such a beautiful & relaxing resort. What makes it extra special is how the resort guests decorate their campers, tents & even golf carts! I have visited this resort during different times of the year and it is always a different experience, but during the holidays it’s the best. (Halloween time is pretty fun too!)
During my December trip to Walt Disney World, some friends and I enjoyed the Holiday Sleigh Ride at Ft. Wilderness Camp Ground. After watching Holiday Wishes from the Magic Kingdom entrance, we took a relaxing boat ride over to Fort Wilderness Camp Ground and met in front of Crockets Tavern. You could also get there by taking a bus to Ft. Wilderness and then take the internal bus. The walk over to the meeting place was fun, as the campground was on decoration overload; even the golf carts were lit up & decorated!
As we were waiting, we heard the sleigh before we saw it. The sleigh was red and beautifully decorated with holly, bows and jingle bells. It was pulled by a huge black horse named “Doug”. There were 4 adults in our party and we fit comfortably, the sleigh could also hold a party of 2 adults and 3 small children. We went on a fun 25-minute ride around the campground. Since it was close to Christmas, the campground was lit up and decorated for the holidays! It was hard to tell where we were going, since it was dark, but people really go all out with their decorations. From inflatables to “Hidden Mickey’s” to lights high up in the trees; these campers take their decorating seriously!
Since we had a late sleigh ride with a 10:30 start, most everything was closed when we returned to Ft. Wilderness. We took the boat back to the Contemporary hotel, since that boat came first, then walked back to the Magic Kingdom to catch a bus back to the hotel.
The sleigh ride is offered during the month of December, every 30 minutes. Reservations can be made 180 days in advance.
