A Review of Disney’s All Star Music Resort & The Family Suite

Calypso building entry

All Star Music Resort is one of three All Star resorts at Walt Disney World.  Our family recently spent a week at Disney’s All Star Music resort in a family suite . As a family of five we like our space! Here’s our review of the family suite, why it’s a great choice for us, and may be for your family as well.

Rooms

Family Suite

This resort has several room categories but the main two are either a standard hotel room or a family suite.  The standard hotel rooms sleep up to four adults and the family suites sleep up to six adults.  The family suites at All Star Music are my favorite for a few reasons.  These rooms were originally two separate standard hotel rooms and later converted to suites.  Upon conversion each suite has two  full bathrooms, which is perfect when you are traveling with three teenage girls.  Unlike other value family suite options, the kitchenette has a full sized refrigerator.  We were able to order breakfast groceries and had a freezer to freeze water bottles for hot days in the theme parks.  These suites are also in the preferred section of the resort near the main building, transportation, and the main pool.

Family Suite main room

In the main room are two murphy style queen sized beds, we left these down for the entirety of our stay. Under each of these beds was adequate storage for suitcases.  The dresser/storage in this room was limited to three drawers.  On each side of the beds was a cubby area and USB charging ports, again perfect for teens.  The bathroom on this side was divided with the tub and toilet separated from the sink area.  In the sink area was an area to hang close and additional storage.

KitchenetteThe other part of the room is where the original room was reconfigured and added in a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, and microwave.  There are also shelves in this area where we stored our breakfast goods and resort refillable mugs.  The bathroom for this bedroom has a shower and toilet separated by a door from the sink area.  There is an area to hang clothing and storage in the sink area.  In the bedroom is a dresser and plenty of USB ports and outlets on the dresser and night stands.

Pools

Piano Pool

All Star Music Resort has two pools the feature pool is a Guitar and the second pool is the Piano Pool.  The feature pool is the larger of the two and has a small wading pool for little ones.  Both pools are sufficiently large for this size of a resort.  During our visit in the heat of summer we never had difficulty finding lounge chairs or space to relax in the water.

Near the main guitar pool there is a building that houses, restrooms, showers, and a laundry room.  On our down day we frequently opt to do some laundry both to save packing space and to help out with not going home with everything dirty.  In the laundry room we were able to scan a qr code that allowed us to pay online and then track the time on both our washers and dryers.  There is also a vending machine with laundry products if you did not bring your own or find yourself unexpectedly doing laundry.  In the center of the room is a large table that was great when we were not the only family folding laundry.

Activities

We always plan a down day during our trips because we know there is no lack of options to keep our day filled.  While I did mention we do laundry that is far from the only thing to do when not in the theme parks.  While we were all happy to spend an afternoon relaxing at the pool we also enjoyed poolside trivia.  On some days there are arts and crafts for a small cost.  During our time there we watched several families making Mickey tie dye shirts that were super cute.  We saw signs for Mickey mosaics but arrived too late to make these.  If you know our family we are all about S’mores!  There is a nightly campfire near the main pool where guests can roast marshmallows for free or purchase a S’mores kit.  We of course were all in on the kit.  Activities are not limited to day time either.  One evening was a movie under the stars, or in our case in the lobby due to rain.  Another night was a glow party at the pool.

Transportation

As a value resort the main transportation for this resort is buses.  There are screens in the bus area that provide the time of the next bus arrival.  During our stay the buses were frequent.  Guests option to use a ride share service are picked up and dropped off at the main entrance to the lobby.

Amenities

Amazon lockers

Outside the main lobby is a set of amazon lockers that allow guests to have smaller items delivered to the resort without needing to utilize bell services.  When I inquired about these I was informed they were still in a trial period and not at all resorts.  As I had seen these on a trip late last year and they are still here I am thinking the trial may be doing well.

Laundry All Stars

When we travel we usually take the first flight of the day because sitting by the pool beats sitting in an airport any day.  This occasionally means that our room may not be ready when we arrive, bell services will hold your luggage so you can jump right into the fun.  We do the reverse when we leave and take a late day flight, again utilizing luggage storage.  Here is a pro-tip, that laundry building by the pool also has showers so you can freshen up before you depart.

Dining

At Disney’s All Star Music resort Intermission food court located in the main lobby building.  We ate there several times during our trip and found everything to be good.  There are four stations within the food court.  The first served specialty coffees and pastries in the morning, and ice cream and pastries later in the day.  The second station was serving roast chicken, salmon, and a chicken rice bowl, this station does seem to change offerings regularly.   The remaining two stations were standard food court fare, burgers, pizza, pasta, chicken tenders.  A grab and go section offered a selection of adult beverages, salads, fruits, yogurt and salads.

Overall we enjoyed our time here and had no complaints, this is a value resort and even in a family suite the rooms are on the smaller side.  The amenities were good and we all agreed we would definitely stay here again.
