During the first weekend in October, my husband Jared & I took the Wilderness Back Trail Adventure Segway Tour at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. We had the 8:30 tour and had to meet at the “Bike Barn” 15 minutes before the tour starts. We took a cab from our hotel to Ft. Wilderness, then the internal bus line to the stop near the “Bike Barn”. It was a beautiful 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
When the rest of the group arrived, we went inside with our tour guides Ron & Dave. First, they fitted us for helmets, gave us our Segway numbers, and had us sign a waiver, then we started our instructions. They gave us an overview and we watched a movie.
We went out to the pavilion and the Segway was lined up in 2 lines. They showed us how to get on and off, turn, go forward, and stop. We got to practice in that area and when we were all comfortable on the Segways we started our tour.
We drove through a small part of the campground and got to see all the Halloween decorations. We went out to a road and over a bridge and discovered a small alligator sunning himself. The tour guides asked if anyone wanted to take pictures and allowed us to get off the Segway to take pictures. We continued on to a spot with a great view of the Magic Kingdom in the background, we drove along the exercise trail between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. We stopped at the Tri Circle D Ranch and at another scenic overview where the tour guides entertained us.
It was a fantastic tour which I would recommend to anyone (minimum age 16). There was a wide variety of ages on our tour; my husband & I were the youngest in our mid-’40s.
